10 Ways to Kickstart your own Personal Wellness Project

By Claire Obeid on

What is Wellness? I get asked this question quite a bit. I think it is a term we all know quite well, but perhaps we don’t really think about what ‘wellness’ really means.

When I think about living in wellness I imagine that each individual is like a puzzle. And when that individual is feeling strong, healthy and happy in all areas of their life – holistically – then all the little pieces that make up that puzzle, the individual, would all be shiny and new. There wouldn’t be any bent corners, or peeling away edges, and everything would fit just as it should.

On the flipside, if you imagine that puzzle with missing, broken, worn out pieces well, I guess that would be a very poor looking puzzle. And a reflection of what it looks like to be...

Transform your Brain: Transform your Body

By Marcus Bondi on

To successfully transform your body, you must first transform your mind. The truth is, nobody needs to go anywhere else to succeed. We are all, if we only knew it, already there.

Be aware that I have personally trained many friends, family and clients to incredible, healthy physiques by encouraging them to appreciate one simple principle: Anytime is training time!

I urge everyone, especially Dry July friends, to start this transformational journey by doing as many push-ups or squats as possible every day. Not at the gym. Not at the park; but at home, the office or wherever you are, at any time.

‘Wasted’ time is especially useful for banging out lots of push-ups and/or squats. Push ups will reward you with strong, toned arms and...

What is the "Pilates Method" and how will it help me?

By Sally Anderson on

The Pilates Method is tried and true, having been around since the early 1900’s. Since mid century it has been one of the fastest growing and most widely used practices in health and wellness globally.

Developed by German born Joseph Pilates this method owes it’s roots to the physical culture movement, but really found it’s way when Joe Pilates relocated and brought it to the USA in the 1920’s.

The Pilates Method uses a system of Matwork (floor exercises done on a mat) as well as an extensive repertoire of apparatus work done on equipment known as the Reformer, Trapeze Table, Wunda Chair, Guillotine, Barrels, Magic Circles, and several other primary pieces. The names might be quirky, but the apparatus is that of a genius. Joe was an...

I'm Sick of Being Sick!

By Ashleigh Brunner on

You’re at work and some one at the desk next to you is sneezing and coughing up a storm. You haven’t seen your best friend all weekend because she’s feeling under the weather and hibernating in her bed.

Is that sniffle coming on? Are you feeling exhausted for no apparent reason? Should you be taking Vitamin C? Need help?

Time to BOOST that immunity!

Immunity can be complicated and is very individual. However, I am going to help you out with a couple of simple tips!

Firstly, our human body contains ten times more microbial cells than human cells. A huge proportion of these bacteria are located in our gut (trillions of the little guys!). These bacteria are responsible for 70-80% of our immunity. Let me stress that percentage again… 70-80% –...

Regenerate a Healthy Liver

By Ashleigh Brunner on

You might be familiar with one of the following scenarios below:

1. You’ve woken up for work with a ringing headache and are feeling about as average as Spain did in the World cup soccer. How did the end of financial year work drinks cascade into a shower of champagne or a steady flowing abundance of delicious beer?

2. The weather in Sydney had become so bitingly cold that it justifies a good hearty glass of red by the fire – every night. For every degree colder this fosters furthur justification of a) A cheeky glass of port or desert wine to top the night off or b) Some/a block of chocolate to accompany the red wine

Your lovely liver: An under valued vital organ that regulates many processes in your body....

How To Date Without Alcohol

By Dr. Nikki Goldstein on

It seems that being single and living in Australia there is an expectation that you either like to go out drinking or when you meet another single person you might go out and meet up over a drink. Our romantic and single lives are holding hands with an alcoholic beverage. Now being a Sexologist I can tell you that one or two drinks can be great for nerves or even bedroom anxieties, but how many people do you know (including yourself) that has the ability to stop there, going further into tipsy town (or worse) doing things that might not have been done or saying things they wish they hadn't. Blame it on the alcohol? I think not, some especially women might argue that it just lowered your inhibitions and you wanted to do it/say it...

Healthy Eating on the Go

By Zoe Bingley on

Healthy eating can be tricky to maintain. While we may eat balanced meals at home, upholding the standard can be hard when we are out on weekends or during a busy work week.

It is easy to be tempted by the cheap and nutritionally empty food when we are busy and on-the-run. “Fast food” is quick, effortless and hard to resist, especially when in the company of someone who is not health-conscious.

However, the problem with fast food chains is that they promote overeating. This prevents you from digesting your food properly and is generally an unhealthy way of living.

While it is unrealistic to stick to a strict diet all of the time, it’s important to take note of exactly what we are putting into our bodies, and choose the best options...
