Nepean Cancer Care Centre, Penrith

Thanks to your support in the 2026 Dry July Campaign, Nepean Cancer Centre raised an amazing $44,892 to create a more welcoming and comfortable environment for people receiving cancer treatment.

New seating and furniture will be added to the Cancer Centre’s waiting area, creating a more spacious, comfortable and accessible environment for patients and their families. A dedicated information space will also make it easier for people to access helpful resources and support services while they’re at the Centre.

"Dry July funding will make a meaningful difference to the experience of patients and families attending our Cancer Care Centre.

The patient waiting area is the first-place people see when they arrive at our centre and is where they spend time before appointments, treatments and consultations, often during what can be a very challenging period in their lives. These enhancements will help create a more comfortable, calmer, and positive environment for patients, their families and carers."

The Nepean Cancer Care Centre resonates deeply with Kelly Jager, not just as her former workplace, but as a place where she's navigated her own challenging health journey. This connection fuels her passionate support for Dry July, a cause she's championed for years as she has raised over $3000 for the fundraising campaign.

Having faced Stage 3 breast cancer at 31, she intimately understands the patient experience, following surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and continued oral treatment for metastatic disease for nearly a decade.

"My personal experience at the Cancer Centre has given me insight into what truly matters to patients," Kelly reflects.

"It's about providing those small gestures that help brighten a patient’s day and making a difficult time a little easier."

Her decision to wholeheartedly participate in Dry July, and continue to do so in the future, stems from witnessing the tangible benefits the fundraiser provides.

“Seeing how Dry July’s funding directly improves patient care makes participating a no-brainer for me. I intend to continue supporting this cause.”

In previous years Dry July donations have allowed the Centre to renovate patient rooms, upgrade outdoor courtyards and purchase specialist equipment.

Kelly encourages her colleagues and all those around her to commit to a great cause and fundraise to contribute to the Cancer Centre's crucial work for the community and its patients.

"Cancer's impact extends far beyond the patient, affecting families and caregivers," Kelly emphasises.

"Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Please consider supporting the Nepean Cancer Care Centre and help create a better quality of life for people affected by cancer."

The funds are helping the Nepean Cancer Care Centre to upgrade its garden, providing a comforting and welcoming environment for patients and families waiting for treatment, as well as the purchase of gender tailored gowns and valuable patient equipment. 

Your fundraising for Dry July has enabled Nepean Cancer Care to purchase items for their Wellness Program, Radiation Unit, patient equipment and to refurbish the patient waiting area.

Our Wellness Program will continue to improve our patients’ physical, mental wellbeing, and recovery journey and the refurbishment of our patient waiting room will help reduce patient anxiety and have a more relaxed and welcoming feel for our patients.

Who will take home the Dry July Trophy and have bragging rights for the next twelve months? Last year’s winner Dr Deme Karikios raised $13,133.25, will he keep his title or will another crusader take his place?

Funds raised will directly support cancer patients in our community undergoing treatment at the centre.
