Improvements to make the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Cancer Care Unit waiting areas a more welcoming, supportive and healing environment.

About Us

Charlies Foundation for Research is the primary fundraising body supporting medical research and hospital initiatives at Perth's Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Osborne Park Hospital.

We raise funds to enable innovative projects that improve patient care, treatment outcomes, and the overall hospital experience. Through community support, partnerships, and donor contributions, we help clinicians and researchers deliver projects that go beyond standard funding.

Our work also enhances hospital spaces, supporting patient and family wellbeing while fostering a culture of compassion, hope, and excellence.

Transforming the Cancer Care Experience through Dry July 2026

With support from funds raised in Dry July 2026, we aim to transform the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Cancer Care Unit waiting areas into a more welcoming, supportive, and healing environment.

Each year, more than 70,000 patients visit the Cancer Centre, alongside the family members, friends, and carers who support them. Creating a comfortable and uplifting space during this time is essential.

This project will deliver:

A calmer, more welcoming environment

Through artwork, murals, indoor plants, and patient art walls that help soften the clinical setting.

Greater comfort during treatment

With a refreshment station, snack options, device charging facilities, and a blanket warming machine.

A dedicated children’s space

Featuring toys, books, interactive activities, soft furnishings, and take-home activity packs to reduce anxiety.

Connection and community

Through a shared book-swap area for patients and families.

Together, these improvements will create a more compassionate, human-centred environment, supporting the wellbeing of patients, families, and staff, while also lifting the morale of the clinicians who care for them every day.

Support this transformation by signing up and fundraising for Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Dry July 2026 or making a donation today. Every contribution helps create a more comfortable and uplifting experience for those facing cancer.
