This July, I’m going alcohol-free to support people and families facing cancer, because I know firsthand how much these services matter.
When my mum was receiving end-of-life care at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in WA, Dry July funded accommodation allowed me to stay by her side during her final days. Because of that room, I was there to hold her hand and be with her when she took her last breath.
Without that support, we wouldn’t have been able to stay with her, and she may have faced those final moments alone. The gift of being together at the end is something no family should have to miss.
Those last days with Mum are memories I will carry with me forever, and they remind me just how important Dry July’s work is.
