Funds raised this Dry July will support cancer patients in Ballarat with holistic care and treatment

About Us

Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) is the largest public provider of cancer treatment services in Western Victoria.

We are a world-class centre providing cancer care and research for patients in Western Victoria. In addition to providing exceptional public cancer care, we are proud of our clinical trials, providing novel cancer treatments to regional patients – many of whom have exhausted all other treatment options. We have 100 clinical trials, from phase I through to phase IV and follow-up studies currently underway in Oncology and Haematology and host a number of other oncology research projects. But our care for cancer patients extends beyond treatment, by providing a holistic approach to patient and family care.

Dry July is a major supporter of our Cancer Wellness Centre. The centre is designed as a welcoming retreat for patients and families. It is a place to rest and be supported, distinct from the more clinical hospital treatment rooms. We also provide a wide range of free support and educational programs to help people with cancer take an active role in their health and well-being. Dry July also helps us purchase items for patient care and comfort, most recently, treatment chairs in our Chemotherapy Day Unit.

We are completely reliant upon community fundraising to continue to provide these free services.

Please help us to continue to provide world-class cancer care to our community by fundraising for our Cancer Centre this Dry July.

Latest Updates

Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre receives additional grant from Dry July Foundation

We're pleased to announce that Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre has received an additional grant from the Dry July Foundation October grant round.

This grant will enable BRICC to build an outdoor, covered BBQ area for existing cancer accommodation.

Having an undercover area will enable patients to enjoy the garden area, without unnecessary sun exposure.

Dry July 2019 helps continue the Wellness Program at BRICC

Thanks to funds raised through Dry July 2019, Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) will continue their Wellness Program, offering cancer patients massage, yoga, Art Therapy, Financial Counselling, Shiatsu, Mindfulness, Delta Dog visits, Reiki and more

In total, there are 15 different programs within the Wellness Centre to support patients, and the BRICC receives no government funding for Wellness Programs. Therefore, the Dry July Foundation funds enable BRICC to continue to offer these fantastic programs.

The Wellness Centre offers complementary therapies designed to relieve tension and may also reduce levels of pain, fatigue, nausea and anxiety in a safe and healing environment and to be supported, informed and empowered to experience life as cancer survivors or meet the challenges of advanced disease and end of life care.

Complementary therapy making a difference

Complementary therapies are used alongside conventional cancer treatment to help manage the symptoms and side effects of cancer. An increasing evidence base demonstrates that particular complementary therapies are valuable in reducing some of the symptoms of cancer and its treatment. They encompasses a range of programs promoting a whole-person integrated approach to health and wellbeing, focusing beyond their medical treatment, by addressing one's physical health, mental/psychological health, social and spiritual needs. Funding raised by Ballarat Regional Intergrated Cancer Centre supporters during Dry July 2018 plus a grant from Dry July Foundation ensured the wellness program that includes massage, meditation, shiatsu, art therapy, yoga, Reiki and music therapy, continued throughout the year at no cost to patients.

Patient Comments include 'I never thought I would end up needing to use the cancer centre; none of us do. But when I was diagnosed, the Wellness Centre was a fabulous place to help deal with all of the emotions and issues that arise with that diagnosis. Having access to free programs was fabulous and helped me get through my treatment. We are very lucky to have the centre'. William

Thank you to all of the Dry July Participants who raise funds for BRICC and Dry July Foundation, this program continues to be available because of you!

Status Update

Over the past year, with the help of funds raised through the Dry July campaign, we have been able to increase our art therapy program. Along with having the art therapy class for patients, we now have art therapy in the waiting room for those who are waiting for appointments as well as art therapy in the chemotherapy unit.

Art therapy involves the use of creative techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, colouring, or sculpting to help people express their inner experiences, develop awareness and support personal change. This can help patients cope with difficulties and stress, and speed up the recovery process. The art therapist offers a safe, supported holding space to allow a person to process difficult emotional issues.

With funds raised during the 2019 Dry July campaign, we would like to continue to run our programs but also look at how we can broaden the reach of our programs for patients in the inpatient setting and chemotherapy unit.

Thank you for supporting the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC).

The Wellness Centre at Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre is designed as a welcoming retreat for patients and carers.

BRICC will be using the funds raised through Dry July 2018 to maintain existing complementary programs, increase the range of programs and extend our Wellness programs to cancer patients in the city of Stawell.
