Three years ago, a good friend of mine Mon (of Sheba when she was drinking 🤣) was diagnosed with late stage 4 pancreatic cancer. For those of us who have worked in insurance, we understand this is a poor prognosis. Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers (only 9.3% of people live past 5 years when diagnosed). Pancreatic cancer receives proportionally low research funding relative to its high mortality rate, often accounting for less than 2% to 3% of total cancer research budgets globally.
Mon was diagnosed on 09/10/2023, and after exhausting every treatment possible and fighting for her life, Mon sadly lost her battle to cancer on 11/09/2024 (a very memorable date). Mon filled every room she was in with life and light; she was always the life of the party and boy did she love a drink (something we bonded over). Dry July to me, is the perfect pledge to honour her memory and sacrificing something that I love in order to raise funds and awareness for under supported cancer research.
Thanks team, I appreciate you letting me share my story!
