My core reason behind signing up to Dry July is to commemorate my Dad who sadly lost his battle with cancer in June 2021 when my first born was 3 weeks old. He raised me as a single parent with the help of his mother, My Nan since I was 2 years old & did the very best he could whilst not only dealing with the stresses of life & past traumas but fighting with cancer and the excruciating pain he lived with since from the day I could remember. He had a kind heart & was always willing to help anyone & everyone around him. His skillset around a car was unlimited, he was the best mechanic I've ever come across & never had a car go through his hands he couldn't find and fix the issue he on because he was such a determined character. I watched him work days on end from morning to midnight in the cold, in the heat trying to get to the issue of a car & be happy to be paid $50 or a case of beer for it because he just wanted to help everyone he ever came across even though I seen him so unwell he never let it get him down & always kept pushing through & even making me laugh with his Dad jokes or dancing moves as Nan would tell him to save his energy from watching him earlier bent over in that much agony.
I'm so grateful for all he did for me as a parent and as a person & all I learnt from watching his will & power to continue to do good in the world & live his life to the best of his ability whilst fighting Cancer. I also want to be able to donate to give to others effected by Cancer if it isn't the least I can do. ❤️
