Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of our Dry July participants every year, the Dry July Foundation is able to help local and national cancer support organisations across Australia deliver practical, tangible support services for people affected by cancer.

Everything we fund is to benefit cancer patients, their families and carers, aiming to make a difficult time, a little easier for people affected by cancer.

A shoulder to lean on. A comforting voice. A place to relax. This is why we Dry July.

Chris O'Brien Lifehouse receives additional grant from Dry July Foundation

We're pleased to announce that Chris O'Brien Lifehouse has received an additional grant from the Dry July Foundation October grant round.

This grant will enable funding for:

• New wigs for the Wig Library to ensure all patients have access to free wig and scarf, correct accessories and professional fitting. This is a service that is crucial for supporting patients as often patients cannot afford a wig as they have stopped working and have large medical bills

• Living Well Bone Marrow Rehab Program: Introduce an 8-week personalised program of individual and group exercise, education, psychological support and nutrition support to help people restore wellbeing, strength and fitness after a bone marrow transplant for treatment for multiple...

Cancer Council State and Territories receive additional grants from the Dry July Foundation

We're pleased to announce that all Cancer Council States and territories have received an additional grant from the Dry July Foundation October grant round.

Thanks to the grants, the following projects will be funded:

Cancer Council NSW

• Refurbishment of 5 Cancer Council Information Services (CCIS). These are located without hospitals and treatment centres, and provide cancer patients, carers, their friends, and families with access to free, evidence-based information and support.

Redkite receives additional grant from Dry July Foundation

We're pleased to announce that Redkite has received an additional grant from the Dry July Foundation October grant round.

This grant will fund the Community Based Support Program for Young People and their families.

This support includes counselling and information both during and post-treatment, including support to bereaved families for as long as they need it

PCFA receives additional grant from Dry July Foundation

We're pleased to announce that Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia has received an additional grant from the Dry July Foundation October grant round.

This grant will enable further funding for the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse (PCSN) program.

To date, with this additional grant, the Dry July Foundation has funded 3.8 full-time equivalent (FTE) PCSN's for 3 years across the country.

McGrath Foundation receives additional grant from Dry July Foundation

We're pleased to announce that McGrath Foundation has received an additional grant from the Dry July Foundation October grant round.

This grant will enable the continuation of a Mildura-based McGrath Breast Care Nurse Louise James.

Louise has said, “I provide support to people with breast cancer and their families, coordinating their care and unpacking medical jargon so that each person understands what is happening. I give people time. Time to understand their diagnosis, time to decide on the right treatment for them and time to appreciate their timeline.

I’m also incredibly passionate about breast health understanding and encourage people to get to know their bodies so that they know what is normal for them.

Leukaemia Foundation receives an additional grant from the Dry July Foundation

We're pleased to announce that Leukaemia Foundation has received an additional grant from the Dry July Foundation October grant round.

This grant will enable the purchase of 6 vehicles for the National Patient Transport Program, a transport service that has helped thousands get to and from medical appointments, driving more than one million kilometres each year to ensure people get the medicines they need to beat their blood cancer .

How you helped Elise’s fight with cancer

Imagine how your whole life would change if you heard the words “You have bowel cancer”. For Elise, hearing these words ignited her will to fight.

Elise had no symptoms of bowel cancer, so the diagnosis came as a complete shock.

Suffering from a sudden heart attack, Elise required a triple-bypass and a short while after her operation, felt something burst in her stomach.

“At first, I was teary and upset. But then I thought, ‘Why should I be? I’m in good hands at Mater.’ I’ve been through a lot, and am still here.”

“Normally, surgeons remove as much of the cancer as possible but in my case, they couldn’t operate as the cancer is behind my intestines. Chemotherapy is my only hope.”

“I’m happy at Mater—I feel at home. It’s welcoming.”

Dry July Foundation funds 62 projects from October Grant Round

We’re so thrilled to announce the recipients of Dry July Foundation funding from the 2019 October Grant Round.

We received an incredible 134 grant applications from 62 organisations across Australia, totalling $5.1m. With $2m available for the grant round, we were able to award funding to 62 projects.

• Lived-Experience Patient and Loved One Booklets: a series of ‘Lived Experience Stories’ booklets, available through the Bowel Cancer Australia website for the more than 15,000 Australians diagnosed with bowel cancer each year, and their families as well as printed copies

Dry July Foundation funds Sleep Pods at Canberra Hospital

Thanks to funds raised through Dry July 2019, Canberra Hospital has been able to purchase specialist chairs ("pods") that convert into beds with movable and breathable shade/cover that prevents noise and light penetration.

Sleep Pods use psychoacoustic techniques to promote relaxation and sleep.

These are for use by rural and regional patients that travel and need rest during treatment.
