For me Dry July is an initial step in raising greater awareness for improved cancer outcomes. I have been a strong advocate for Cancer prevention, screening ,early detection and treatment initiatives for many years. I have had the honour & privilege of supporting patients and families during their cancer journey, witnessing time & time again the love , courage, support and strength in families and the life altering devastation that this disease brings along with it.
But nothing could have prepared me for what was to come, in 2023 my Dad was diagnosed with an aggressive stage 4 Lung cancer , we did not have a moment to blink and my Dad took the news in his stride and put everyone one else around him first as he always had, he was full of love, laughter and gratitude during his cancer journey and we would loose him within a heart shattering 12 week period. Nothing has been the same since loosing him and I will be forever grateful for every minute we had together. Looking forward in his honour I will do my best to help others get screened, raise awareness and create clearer cancer care pathways for patients and families impacted by Cancer.
