Courtyard Opens at The Alfred

The Alfred is astounded at the support the community has shown us throughout Dry July.   We would like to thank you for helping us to improve the facilities in which our patients are treated.  Your support assists people facing a very difficult journey and for that we are enormously grateful.  

Since becoming a beneficiary of Dry July in 2014, The Alfred has already seen some amazing and positive changes.  We recently opened a new garden courtyard outside the patient waiting area in the William Buckland Radiotherapy Centre.  This tranquil and beautiful space will have a constructive and beneficial influence on those undergoing cancer treatments.  With the funds received this year we will continue to improve those areas where our patients spend a great deal of their time.

Ralph the Dog back for 2nd Dry July

Ralph is a therapy dog who regularly visits cancer patients at The Alfred in Melbourne, helping to brighten their days. Last year Ralph completed the challenge not by abstaining from drinking alcohol (which of course he’s not allowed) but by giving up treats. In doing so he raised $3,823!  

Work Begins on The Alfred’s Outdoor Courtyard

The Alfred was a first time Dry July beneficiary in 2014 and one of their top ‘wish list’ projects was renovation of the outdoor area opposite the waiting room at William Buckland Radiotherapy Centre. The area was not suitable for patient use. There was very little space, no where to sit, and the types of trees caused a lot of leaf litter. 

Using Dry July funds, work has commenced on transforming the space into an accessible, relaxing area for patients outside and in the fresh air, away from the busy hospital environment.

The area is being levelled out, trees removed and replaced, shade sails installed, and seating and tables installed.

Beneficiary: The Alfred

The Alfred in Melbourne will be holding their Launch Event on Tuesday 1st July in the courtyard area. Grill’d St Kilda will be bringing their food-truck, where profits from sales will go to Dry July.

The Alfred will also be holding a Trivia Night on Thursday 17th July. Hosted by Steve Ellen and Rob Sayer, this will be held in the AMREP seminar room.
