We’re delighted to announce the 41 recipients of this year’s Dry July Foundation Grant Program as part of the 2016 Dry July campaign.
Of the 16,700 Dry July participants, 12,000 of those gave up alcohol to directly support the Dry July Foundation in 2016, with money raised being allocated to the Grant Program in their state. Cancer support organisations in each state were then invited to submit applications to benefit from these funds.
Applications were capped at $50,000 but organisations could apply for more than one project. We received applications for 139 projects from 51 organisations across Australia, totalling $3.8m. With the $1.7m available from this year’s campaign we’ve awarded funding to 75 projects.
Dry July CEO, Brett Macdonald, says: “We are extremely proud to be able to fund a diverse range of cancer support organisations through the Dry July Foundation Grant Program. The amazing fundraising achievements of our Dry Heroes in 2016 are now making a big difference to the lives to people affected by cancer right across the country.”
Participants for the 2016 campaign totalled 16,700 (raising the campaign total of $3.7 million). 4,700 participants nominated a specific beneficiary organisation (raising $1.5 million), with the remaining 12,000 participants nominating the Dry July Foundation as the beneficiary of their fundraising (raising $2.2 million in funds for the Dry July Foundation).
After covering the expenses of the 2016 campaign, the remaining funds of $1.7 million have been made available to cancer support organisations in Australia.

About Dry July
Dry July is the fundraiser that challenges you to go booze-free for the month to support people affected by cancer. When you’re diagnosed with cancer it’s hard to think about anything other than treating the cancer. Dry July raises money to ease that burden, reduce stress and add a bit of comfort for those affected by cancer. We help to provide things that may not be front-of-mind after a cancer diagnosis; getting to and from an appointment, somewhere to stay near the hospital, Wi-Fi access and mobile phone chargers. We aim to make cancer patients more comfortable and help with the side effects of treatment through services such as complementary therapies, wig libraries and massages, and by providing comfortable and inviting spaces for them to enjoy while undergoing treatment.
In the nine Dry July campaigns to-date, more than 125,000 participants have gone booze-free and collectively raised over $29 million AUD, helping us support more than 50 different cancer services across Australia and New Zealand and fund over 1,200 projects.
