Bridget's Story
In 2019, she received a life‑changing diagnosis: Stage 1 cervical cancer.
“After 2 day surgeries and 3 different scans I was officially in remission, and I wanted to give back to the services that assisted me while I was completing my treatment and starting my remission journey. On the 19th of December 2019 I was classed as no evidence of disease present and started my remission journey.” In early 2020, just before her first oncology check‑in, anxiety overwhelmed Bridget. She reached out to 13 11 20 for support.
“The person on the other end of the line was a lifesaver instead of sorting out a support group they recognised that I may need more in-depth counselling and recommended going back to the GP to organise some counselling.”
Through phone sessions, Bridget built a self‑care plan and one activity stuck: walking - which soon became jogging with music.
It became her steady anchor.
In June 2025, Bridget faced another frightening moment. A new mass, new tests, another day surgery. This time, she received the news she hoped for: benign. The scare pushed her to focus even more on her health, strength, and wellbeing.
Bridget’s story is one of courage and community. And she hopes her journey will inspire others to seek support, keep moving, and never feel alone.
